The sequel for Oh My God was in the pipeline for quite a long time and looks like things have finally picked up the pace. The sequel to the 2012 hit was said to start in summer 2021 but the pandemic spoilt all plans. The prequel had Paresh Rawal sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar. The latest report flowing in states that Pankaj Tripathi has come on board, while Paresh has opted out.
It’s learned that several concepts were discussed before settling on the final one as building a franchise from something as beloved as OMG is a significant responsibility. Everything is now locked in place, and things are moving quickly.
Speaking of the cast, Paresh Rawal starred in the first part of the film with Akshay Kumar portraying the god Krishna, Pankaj Tripathi will lead the show in Oh My God 2.
As per an insider, “Oh My God 2 will feature Pankaj Tripathi as the lead character alongside Akshay Kumar, who gets back to play his role from the first part. The discussions have been going on for quite some time with Pankaj and everything is now locked,” reports Pinkvilla.
For those who are unaware, OMG 2 to mark Akshay’s second collaboration with Pankaj Tripathi, as their first collaboration is Sajid Nadiadwala’s Bachchan Pandey.
Umesh Shukla who directed the part, will not be handling the sequel. While the director is yet to be locked, the Oh My God sequel will be produced by Ashwin Varde and Akshay Kumar.
Before starting work on the OMG sequel, Akshay will finish filming for Anand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan, a significant portion of the Abhishek Sharma helmed Ram Setu and another project. Apart from the confirmed films, Akshay is now in discussions for as many as 11 more projects, with his schedule for the next three years seems to be jam-packed.
Speaking of Pankaj Tripathi, the actor will be seen in Kabir Khan’s 83 apart from Bachchan Pandey.
