The highly-anticipated Singham Again was released during Diwali, in a clash with Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Considering the brand value of the Singham franchise and the Cop Universe, the film was expected to pull off blockbuster numbers. Unfortunately, it even failed to recover the cost through domestic earnings, and the collection wrapped up below 410 crore gross at the worldwide box office. The Singham threequel marked the reunion of director Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn. The duo last worked together for a full-fledged film in 2017 (Golmaal Again). As the duo is known for delivering big successes over the years, there was excitement surrounding the collaboration. Also, as the film had cameos of Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff and a special appearance of Salman Khan, it was expected to explode at ticket windows.
The clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 dented the screen/show count of Singham Again and later, mixed word-of-mouth made things difficult. As a result, after the initial rush, the film failed to maintain a good pace and wrapped up its run much below the expected numbers.
Singham Again took a start of 43.70 crores at the Indian box office and earned 186.60 crores during the opening week. From here, minimum expectations were to earn 300 crores but that didn’t happen and as per the final collection update, the magnum opus wrapped up its run at 274.61 crore net. Including taxes, the gross collection stands at 324.03 crores. Considering the budget of 340 crores, the film is a flop affair at the Indian box office.
Overseas, the Ajay Devgn starrer earned 82.96 crore gross and became a big success. It’s also the biggest overseas grosser for Ajay. Including this, the final collection stands at 406.99 crore gross at the worldwide box office. It’s a good sum in isolation but considering the face value and the scale, the film turned out to be a major disappointment.
