Thalapathy Vijay is all geared up with his Varisu, which releases next year in January. The film is releasing during the period of Pongal/Sankranti. As expected, it is not arriving solo as multiple films are coming during the same period. Despite tough competition, the film is enjoying a huge buzz in the market. Pongal/Sankranti is too crowded in 2023!
The period of Pongal is considered to be an important festival for South films, especially Kollywood i.e. Tamil film industry. Also, around this time there’s Sankranti festival, which attracts filmmakers’ attention as its a lucrative period to make big moolah at the box office. Speaking about this time, the festive is just too crowded.
From the Tamil industry, there’s Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu. From the Telugu/Hindi film industry, there’s Prabhas’ Adipurush, Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna’s next. Despite so many films, Vijay’s next has managed to shine.
Varisu pre-release business including theatrical rights price
As per the reports flowing in, Thalapathy Vijay’s next has been sold at a record price in overseas. It has fetched around 35 crores for its theatrical rights in international circuits. From Tamil Nadu, it has bagged 72 crores. Rights in Kerala and Karnataka are sold at 15 crores. Telugu states’ rights are reportedly sold at 10 crores+.
Apart from theatrical rights, Varisu has earned a whopping 50 crores (Sun TV) for satellite rights. OTT rights have been sold at 60 crores (Amazon Prime Video). Audio rights have been sold at 5 crores (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) to T-Series.
Varisu budget & Thalapathy Vijay’s fees
Just like any other Thalapathy Vijay’s films in the past, Varisu too is an expensive affair. The film carries a budget of 170 crores, which also includes fees of Thalapathy Vijay standing at 120 crores. Here, the actor will not be taking any share in box office profits.
