Akshay Kumar’s much-talked-about Samrat Prithviraj is just a few hours away from arriving in theatres across the country. It marks the debut of Miss India 2017 winner, Manushi Chhillar. Backed by Yash Raj Films, the period drama is showing shockingly low response as per advance booking report for day 1.
The film is arriving in a three-way clash and it’s pretty much clear that it will face the heat at the box office. Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil’s Vikram and Adivi Sesh’s Major are arriving too in theatres tomorrow. Even though all three films belong to different genres, they are surely dividing the audience to an extent.
Now, as per the latest update of advance booking, Samrat Prithviraj has failed in picking up the pace as it has made an approx 3.50 crores through advance ticket sales. It’s highly shocking as being a period drama, such numbers are disappointing. If we compare them with Bollywood releases, it’s less than half of what Ranveer Singh’s 83 had witnessed. The Kabir Khan directorial had earned approx 8.25 crores through advance ticket sales.
If we talk about this year’s releases, Samrat Prithviraj has even failed to cross Gangubai Kathiawadi‘s 4.20 crores and lagging far behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2‘s 6.30 crores. Now, as advance booking is unimpressive, all hopes are pinned on spot booking tomorrow. It’s clear that opening won’t be up to the mark and it’s now has become a word-of-mouth dependent affair and if it turns out to be good, the film might put up a decent total for opening day.
Helmed by Chandanprakash Dwivedi, the period drama also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar in key roles. It’s based on the life of the great Indian warrior king, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan and is one of the most expensive Bollywood films.
