Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi is amongst the highly anticipated releases for Bollywood in recent times. The film was originally scheduled to release in March 2020 but Covid-19 played a role of a big hurdle. After waiting for so long, fans were promised that the film will be releasing on 30th April 2021. But now, seems like the virus has just ruined the plans yet again as the film might not release in theatres.
Yes, you read that right! As per insiders, Sooryavanshi is in the round of talks where the makers might give a nod to skip theatrical release and arrive directly digitally. Obviously, the decision isn’t a pleasing one for the makers and fans either, it is being discussed considering the serious conditions that exist today.
For those who aren’t aware, Akshay Kumar‘s film has a huge investment riding on it. And yes, it will need a huge sum to be in a successful zone, which is definitely not possible in the current situation of Covid. Specifically, it’s Maharashtra of which the makers are concerned. Rohit Shetty and Akshay, both have a massive following in Maharashtra (specifically in Mumbai, Pune). The release date of 30th April is really close and instead of betterment in conditions, the state might witness another lockdown. Even if the lockdown doesn’t happen, people won’t be flocking theatres in big numbers.
Apart from Maharashtra, other pockets are also witnessing a rise in Covid cases. All such factors have led the Sooryavanshi makers to brainstorm the best possible decision. Of course, postponement isn’t a choice anymore as the film will not be getting a free window in theatres as big festive dates have already been blocked.
It’s really sad to see such a disturbing situation for theatres and big-ticket releases!
