The much-awaited trailer of Jayalalithaa’s biopic, Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut as the lead actress, dropped on the special occasion of the actress’ birthday. The trailer was dropped on the morning of March 23. Recently, the actress won the National Award for Best Actress for Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Panga. Kangana said that as she turns 34 years old, she feels that her career is at its peak.Â
The trailer narrates the journey of the late politician, Jayalalithaa, chronicling her life from being a movie actress to a politician. The actress looks spectacular as she did not leave any stone unturned to perfectly get into the skin of her character. The trailer also shows how Jayalalithaa was undermined by men in the political aura. They believed that she did not have what it takes to be a political leader, especially because she was a movie star.Â
The trailer of Thalaivi also revisits her relationship with MG Ramachandran. Arvind Swami has played the role of MGR. It shows how her relationship with MGR paved her way into politics. MGR guided Jayalalithaa into politics because of which she was loved and adored by the people of Tamil Nadu. However, after Ramachandran’s death, Jayalalithaa proved that she could be an independent leader. She worked towards the betterment of the people of Tamil Nadu with utmost dedication.Â
The trailer gives a peek into the romantic and humorous moments of her life too. It glimpses of her election campaigning in Tamil Nadu and the celebration after she won. It also shows the powerful moment when Jayalalithaa took Indira Gandhi in her maiden speech in the parliament in 1984.Â

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut had revealed that she has worked for months to transform her physicality. She had to gain 20 kgs for playing the role. The weight gain also damaged her back.Â
Thalaivi will release in theatres on April 23, 2021. The film will be releasing in multiple languages, including Tamil and Hindi.Â
