Salman Khan’s Antim & Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan To Take A Radhe Route Of Hybrid Release?

Seems like hyrbrid release model will bloom in India

Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, finally released on Eid after a year of anticipation. However, with the film, we saw an introduction of a new release model considering the pandemic situation. In India, the film was made available through pay-per-view, while in overseas, it released in theatres where its screening was allowed. Zee Studios described it as a multiplatform release. Now, the studio has planned of releasing Salman’s Antim, Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan and making it available through multiplatform release.

When Radhe was announced, a segment of trade experts and cinema owners thought that releasing such a large film digitally was suicide. They were concerned that viewers would not be able to pay Rs. 249 for a single film. On the first day of its release, however, Zee’s servers crashed as masses flocked to watch the film. Radhe fetched a viewership of 4.2 million views on Day 1, surprising everyone and sending a surge of joy to its investors. Over its extended weekend, the film received 9.9 million-plus views, as per Zee’s official statement.

With such a huge success, Zee Studios has proposed a plan for a hybrid release of Ajay Devgn‘s upcoming sports drama, Maidaan, as well as Salman Khan, Aayush Sharma starrer Antim. Interestingly, Maidaan is Zee’s own film, so it’s almost confirmed of taking a hybrid release route. On the other hand, Zee has established good relations with Salman, so expect Antim to take the same route.

Apart from the aforementioned biggies, Zee is planning to release a couple of big-budget South Indian films with the same model.

Speaking of Maidaan, it’s a historical sports film based on the true story of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It’s helmed by Amit Sharma. Antim is a Hindi remake of the Marathi hit, Mulshi Pattern. It stars Aayush Sharma in a grey-shaded character alongside Salman. It’s directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.
