Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey waited in the pipeline for a long due to the pandemic. But when it has finally come out, it is facing a disastrous fate. Blame the competition or poor strategy decisions, the film has suffered badly. Let’s see what’s its budget and what are the returns at the box office.
Jersey budget & its box office fate
As per strong reports, Shahid Kapoor starrer has been made at a cost of around 120 crores. It’s a huge cost considering the scale and subject of the film. It’s said that Shahid alone took away a chunk of 35-40 crores as his fees.
With a budget of 120 crores, Jersey needs to make around 150 crores to be a Semi-Hit affair and 240 crores to be a clean box office Hit. But the reality is, the film hasn’t even crossed the 20 crore mark in its first 5 days. And with KGF Chapter 2 running successfully and Heropanti 2, Runway 34 arriving this week, the film is very much a one-week affair.

Poor strategy & social media negativity tanked Jersey!
Shahid’s film saw itself surrounded by just too much negativity. First and foremost is the poor strategy for deciding the release date. The makers could have zeroed in on any date but when Laal Singh Chaddha shifted its release from 14th April, Shahid’s film got itself placed there.
It might be an overconfident move considering the date was already booked by monster KGF Chapter 2. What’s more disappointing was that the makers backed out from the date just a day ago its scheduled release. It clearly sent out a message that the makers are afraid of the KGF 2 storm (the makers gave a different reason though). The film then arrived a week later of KGF, but till then, the entire nation was gripped by Rocky Bhai’s fever. So basically, it was a confused and poor release timing.
Jersey faced extreme social negativity before its release for being another remake from Bollywood. As we all know, there’s a lot of negativity about Bollywood on social media, especially over remakes. Shahid’s film proved to be a perfect target and saw some extreme reactions coming in.
