The excitement is in the air as Rajinikanth is all set to make a grand big-screen comeback with his highly anticipated Vettaiyan. Given the powerful supporting cast and Rajini’s presence, the film is enjoying a huge buzz and that’s getting translated to the box office too as the day 1 advance booking response is nothing less than a blockbuster. Going by early signs, the biggie is aiming for the highest opening day collection for a Tamil film in 2024.
The upcoming Kollywood action drama marks the reunion of Rajini and Amitabh Bachchan after 33 years. The duo was last seen in Hum, which was released in 1991. So, apart from fans, there’s excitement among the neutral audience too to witness the two legendary actors on the big screen together. Also, as Rajini is coming fresh from the success of Jailer, the momentum is in his favor.
Vettaiyan arrives on the big screen on Thursday (October 10), and the advance booking for the film started yesterday. Initially, only a limited number of shows were listed to book the tickets but now, over 3,350 shows are listed. As expected, Tamil Nadu is leading from the front, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.
As of 9:45 pm IST, Vettaiyan has sold tickets worth 5.05 crores gross (excluding blocked seats) at the Indian box office through advance booking for day 1. It includes a sale of over 2.47 lakh tickets across the country. It’s a fantastic response and it clearly hints at the thunderous box office opening the film is aiming to take this Thursday.

Karnataka has crossed 0.85 crore gross and by the end of the day, it is expected to go past the 1 crore mark. Kerala has crossed 0.55 crore gross so far.
