The re-release of Tumbbad is going to be the biggest-ever re-release in the history of Bollywood. Yes, you read that right! The film, which became a modern-day cult in the horror genre over the years, has arrived again at the Indian box office and it has been given a massive show count to shine. And yes, the film is ready to surprise everyone with its start as the final advance booking for day 1 is simply superb.
Directed by Anil Barve, the folk horror film was originally released in 2018. Back then, it received highly positive reviews from critics but unfortunately, it didn’t make much money during its theatrical run and ended its journey at 13.50 crores net. However, over the years, it has become widely popular due to its intriguing content and is often termed as one of the best films in the genre.
Tumbbad has finally re-released across the country, after days of aggressive promotions. Considering the goodwill it enjoys, the film managed to generate an organic buzz on the ground level and that was clearly reflected at the Indian box office through the advance booking response. It is learned that, for day 1 (today), the film sold a whopping 21,300 tickets in the national cinema chains alone (PVR-INOX and Cinepolis). It’s a crazy response for a re-release!
Including non-national cinema chain theatres, Tumbbad has sold a total of 34,000+ tickets all across the nation (excluding blocked seats). In terms of collection, the film has already amassed 59 lakh gross through pre-sales for day 1. Interestingly, the film has opened at 0.65 crore during its original release, which will be surpassed today by a huge margin.
Considering the response and buzz on the ground level, the Sohum Shah starrer is heading for the biggest-ever start for a Bollywood re-release. It is enjoying a massive show count of 2,100 in India.
