Everyone in Kollywood, the South Indian film industry, and even movie aficionados pan India were going gaga over the announcement that Lokesh Kanagaraj was teaming up with superstar Rajinikanth. Rumors were already doing the rounds last year right after Kanagaraj’s Vijay starrer Leo hit theatres. Now, fans are going completely berserk as the film is officially confirmed, tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, and even the first look poster of Rajini is out.
In March end, Lokesh Kanagaraj shared the first look of the film which portrayed Thalaivar in a full rugged, and stylish get-up, wearing gold watches. He also sports gold sunglasses. This poster indeed contributed to both the growing excitement and speculation about the movie.
Now, it is rumored that the plot of Thalaivar 171 is inspired by the 2013 Hollywood film, Purge. The plot follows the American government sanctioning an annual 12-hour period in which all criminal activity-including murder becomes legal. If the Indian adaptation of this storyline works in India, it will be a game changer as nothing of this sort has been experimented on here, yet.
Kanagaraj had posted recently that the title and teaser launch of Thalaivar 171 would happen on 22 April. The first look had already created so much social media buzz that Thalaivar fans think they will completely lose it when the teaser is released. There are speculations that Sivakarthikeyan and Ranveer Singh will be part of the film, and play pivotal roles.
