Defying all expectations, Premalu has not only become a sleeper hit but also the fourth highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. It has surpassed Lucifer’s worldwide lifetime gross collection of 128 crores. This feat has coincided with the film completing 50 days successfully in theatres.
Directed by Girish AD, the rom-com starring Naslen K Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles is also the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie of 2024 so far. Following its successful run in its native language, Premalu also garnered the interest of Telugu viewers and experienced notable success at the Telugu box office.
Despite earning slightly less than 0.50 crore at the beginning of Premalu’s 8th week in theatres, the film has amassed a net total of 72.50 crores at the Indian box office. After factoring in taxes, the gross earnings in India amount to 85.55 crores, while the overseas market has contributed 43 crores in gross collection. Summing up the gross earnings from both India and overseas, Premalu’s worldwide box office total stands at 128.55 crores.
Critics and fans have called Premalu a ‘laughter riot’ and appreciated it for its compelling narrative, foot-tapping music, on-point comedy, and remarkable performances by all cast members.
With its impressive performance at the box office, Premalu has helped the Malayalam film industry gain momentum in 2024. However, as the pace has slowed down, the film is expected to wrap up its run very soon.
