Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 has finally ended its day 1 at the box office amid highly polarizing reviews. Nonetheless, thanks to humongous advance bookings and walk-ins, the film took a bumper opening yesterday. Here’s how much collection it has put on board.
Mani Ratnam’s pan-India film starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Prakash Raj released with a huge screen count yesterday. Thanks to pre-release buzz, the film enjoyed a terrific response in advance booking. But with highly polarizing reviews coming in, it felt like PS 1 would suffer during evening and night shows with walks-ins getting impacted. However, that hasn’t happened.
As per the early estimates, Ponniyin Selvan 1 has managed to do a business of 40-42 crores nett (all languages) in India at the box office. Surprisingly, despite no pre-release buzz, PS 1 managed a good start in the Hindi belt as collection of around 2 crores came in. Remember, it is competing with Vikram Vedha.
After such a bumper opening, we have seen South biggies dipping sharply on the next day. So, today is very crucial for Ponniyin Selvan 1. The reviews so far have been really confusing with those who have liked it, giving extremely positive reviews. On the other side, those who haven’t liked it, are calling it no less than torture. It’ll be interesting to see how much collection collection comes today.
