On the occasion of Independence Day, two major releases from Tollywood are hitting theatres and both films have the potential to score huge at the Indian box office. Yes, we’re talking about Ram Pothineni’s Double iSmart and Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan. In the case of Ram’s film, there’s a benefit to it of being a sequel; expectedly, it is showing a better response in day 1 advance booking than its competitor. Let’s find out how both films have fared so far in pre-sales!
For those who don’t know, Ram’s film is a sequel to iSmart Shankar, which was released in 2019 and was highly successful at the Indian box office. Apart from Ram, the film also features Sanjay Dutt in a key role and it also marks the return of director Puri Jagannadh after the failure of Liger. It stars Kavya Thapar as the female lead.
Coming to Ravi Teja’s film, it’s an official remake of Ajay Devgn’s Raid, which was released in 2018 and was successful with a net collection of over 100 crores at the Indian box office. It is directed by Harish Shankar and also stars Bhagyashri Borse and Jagapathi Babu in key roles.
In terms of day 1 advance booking, Double iSmart has sold tickets worth 1.49 crores gross (excluding blocked seats) at the Indian box office, as of 11:55 am IST. It includes a count of over 82,000 tickets all across the nation. Considering the decent buzz, the film is expected to pick up and post a healthy total at the end of the day. In the final update, it is expected to close opening day pre-sales by comfortably crossing the 2 crore mark.
Mr Bachchan is lagging behind Double iSmart as at the same time, the film has sold tickets worth 1.20 crores gross (excluding blocked seats) for day 1 at the Indian box office. In terms of ticket sales, the Ravi Teja starrer has registered over 67,000 admits. In the final update, it is expected to touch the 1.50 crore mark or go slightly beyond that.
