Box Office This Week: It’s a new Friday and two new movies are hitting theatres across the country. Ayushmann Khurrana’s Anek is coming from the Bollywood camp, while Hollywood is coming with Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. Let’s see how Ayushmann’s film is faring in advance booking report and also the day 1 prediction for Tom’s much-awaited film.
Both Anek and Top: Gun Maverick belong to entirely different genres. So it’s good to see that none of the films will eat into each other’s business. Shockingly, despite having credible names, both the films are low on hype. So no bumper start this week for sure. Both of the films have now become totally word-of-mouth dependent affairs.
Speaking of the advance booking report for Ayushmann Khurrana’s film, the majority of the response has come from Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. After a dismal start of advance booking, it somewhat picked up a little bit of pace from yesterday evening onwards. As of now, Anek has earned 1.30 crores from advance ticket sales (till today evening). The final figure would be around 1.80 crores before the film releases tomorrow. Even if the film earns a similar amount through current bookings, it will set for a decent start.
Now coming to Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, the film marks the return of the action star to the franchise after three decades. As Top Gun isn’t that popular with the Indian audience, the film is witnessing a low buzz. It will work purely on Tom’s face value and word-of-mouth will help in evening and night shows (in case of positive audience feedback).
As of now, it looks like Top Gun: Maverick will take a start of anywhere between 7.50-10 crores in India on its day 1. The figure might go well above 12 crores if word-of-mouth turns out to be positive.
