The year 2022 has been good so far for the Marathi industry as already two blockbusters have come in the form of Pawankhind and Dharmaveer. With Sarsenapati Hambirrao, this year’s third blockbuster is loading for the Marathi film industry. Said to be the most expensive Marathi film ever, let’s see how much budget it is carrying and discuss its box office aspect.
The film is a periodic drama loaded with action and it is based on the valour of a chief military commander during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Hambirrao Mohite. It is set in the late 17th century and is shot on a huge scale, as we can see through the film’s teaser and trailer.
Sarsenapati Hambirrao is helmed by maverick filmmaker Pravin Tarde, who also plays the titular character. The film is being promoted as the biggest film ever for the Marathi film industry. But can you guess what’s its budget? Well, as confirmed by Tarde himself, the film is made on a huge budget of 15 crores. Yes, you read that right!
A lot of money has been spent on battle sequences and the overall scale has been set huge. Despite such a huge budget, the makers are confident that it will be a huge box office HIT.
To become a box office HIT, Sarsenapati Hambirrao will need to make 30 crores in Maharashtra, and considering the seeing the thunderous response of the audience to Pawankhind and Dharmaveer, it looks like Hambirrao too will fetch blockbuster love from people in Maharashtra. Of course, it will eventually boil down to word-of-mouth but the bumper opening is on the cards for sure.
Scheduled to release on 27th May, Sarsenapati Hambirrao will face competition from Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and clash with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Anek and Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. Despite this, the film will get a good screen count in Maharashtra as Anil Thadani’s AA Films is distributing the film.
