There’s a lot of uncertainty at the box office post the Covid pandemic. On one side several records got broken in a surprising manner, while on the other side, promising big films crashed like anything. Today, we’ll be taking a look at 5 Bollywood films including Runway 34, Vikram Vedha and others that deserved to taste success along with their true potential.
Jhund
Amitabh Bachchan led Jhund is one of the most underrated Bollywood films. Made in a typical Nagraj Manjule trademark style, the film is honest with its subject and Manjule’s direction and performances make it a wholesome treat. Sadly, despite good reviews, it failed at ticket windows and earned just 19 crores. Its true potential was 65-80 crores at the Indian box office.
Runway 34
In an unpopular opinion, Ajay Devgn has always been a fascinating director, and all his films have that unique, stylish touch. To date, Runway 34 is the best of all his directorial ventures. Be it performances or gripping screenplay, the film had it all. Yes, the subject was niche but in the past, we have seen films like Pink and Badla raking in the huge moolah, proving that such films do have their audience. At the Indian box office, the film earned just 34 crores while its true potential was 75-90 crores.
Vikram VedhaÂ
Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s Vikram Vedha was an official Hindi remake of a Tamil cult by the same name starring Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan. Right from the trailer to the final output, the film passed with merits in all departments and no one don’t really know what went wrong as it tanked commercially. Backed by one of their career-best performances of Hrithik and Saif, VV earned 78.90 crores. Its true potential was 150-170 crores.
An Action Hero
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat, this one is another well made and highly engaging film which failed at ticket windows. Ayushmann is always open to experiment and this one was a classic attempt. Despite garnering highly positive reviews, the film went unnoticed and earned just 10.90 crores in India, while its actual potential was of 60-75 crores lifetime.
Selfiee
This one is a recent addition to the list. Starring Akshay Kumar to Emraan Hashmi, the film had some flaws but with heart in a right place. While the duo delivered good performances, the screenplay was tighter and engaging. It’s one of the good films Akshay gave in a long time and it deserved to be a commercial success. Till now, it has earned around 17 crores and is a huge disaster. Its actual potential is of 120-140 crores lifetime.
