Vijay Deverakonda has turned out to be a big losing at the box office, putting producer Dil Raju in bad position. Read on!
The latest Telugu movie, The Family Star was expected to pull audiences due to the winning combination of Vijay Devarakonda and director Parasuram (audiences can remember that they delivered a super-hit in 2018 with Geetha Govindam together, which is talked about even now). But this time, the opposite happened. Their latest film has failed to create magic at the box office.
On the first day, it opened a box office account with 5.75 crores in India, but the numbers started declining sharply after that. The film has now dipped down to lakhs. It also garnered a lot of negative reviews from audiences and critics, which furthered its downward spiral.
This debacle is said to have resulted in huge losses for producer Dil Raju. Experts attribute this to the lack of proper budgeting. The film was originally budgeted to be between 60 to 65 crores, but the final budget ended up exceeding 90 crores.
Coincidentally, around the same time, OTT platforms began withdrawing their support, leading to The Family Star not achieving the anticipated digital rights revenue according to Dil Raju’s projections. The accomplished producer managed to recoup only half of the budget through non-theatrical means, with hopes that the film’s performance in theatres would emulate the success of Geetha Govindam and generate profits from theatrical revenues.
As there were substantial losses incurred for all those involved. Dil Raju opted for a self-release in the Nizam and Uttarandhra regions, garnering approximately 35 crores in shares, including those from Nizam and UA. However, this translated to a loss exceeding 10 crores for Dil Raju himself. As a consequence, he now faces the responsibility of compensating the distributors of the film, who have reportedly incurred losses surpassing two-thirds of their investments.
