Rebel star Prabhas has never been out of the news ever since the release of Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. The movie, also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, had crossed 600 crores globally. Now that Prabhas has finally gotten his much-needed comeback, fans are eagerly waiting for the release of his next, Kalki 2898 AD, an upcoming 2024 Indian epic science-fiction dystopian film, based on Hindu scriptures and set in a post-apocalyptic world.
Slated for release in May 2024, Kalki 2898 AD also stars some big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. The movie has already created a buzz on social media after its teaser release, showcasing impressive visual effects. A report even stated that the VFX budget of the film is over 38% of its total budget.
Amid all the buzz of the biggie, it has now been rumored that Kalki 2898 AD’s OTT rights have been sold for a whopping 375 crores. The South Indian languages’ rights are reportedly sold for 200 crores, while the Hindi rights have fetched 175 crores, as per rumors. If we compare this amount to the film’s reported budget of 600 crores, it seems that the makers have secured a bumper deal, recovering 62.5% of the total cost.
While this isn’t officially confirmed by any strong source, everyone is going gaga over these humongous numbers. Earlier, there were reports that OTT platforms were eager to secure rights even while the movie was still in production.
Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD is directed by Nag Ashwin, and as per recent reports, the film also stars HanuMan fame Teja Sajja. It is scheduled to release on 9th May 2024.
