Prasad Oak's Dharmaveer 2 wrapped up as a successful affair at the Indian box office but stays much below expectations compared to part one.
Released amid huge anticipation, Dharmaveer 2 has wrapped up its theatrical run at the Indian box office. It faced stiff competition from Sachin Pilgaonkar’s Navra Maza Navsacha 2 but still managed to become a commercial winner and secured a hit verdict in India. However, considering the mammoth expectations, the film underperformed and earned a much lower collection than its predecessor.
Directed by Pravin Tarde, the Dharmaveer sequel was released in theatres on 27 September. Upon its release, the Marathi biographical political drama opened to mixed reviews from critics. Even among the audience, it fared with mixed word-of-mouth. As a result, the film suffered bigger drops than expected after the first few days. Nonetheless, it covered a good distance and became successful.
Apart from Marathi, Dharmaveer 2 was also released in Hindi languages in selected locations across the country but almost the entire chunk of business came from Maharashtra. It started well and ended up earning 12.31 crores during the opening week. However, it witnessed a bigger drop during the second week, and eventually, the performance slowed down.
The Prasad Oak starrer ended its run at the Indian box office by earning 15.13 crore net. It’s a good total but compared to part one’s 26.10 crores, it earned 42.03% less collection.
Reportedly, Dharmaveer 2 was made on a budget of 8 crores. So, if compared with the domestic collection of 15.13 crores, it enjoyed an ROI (return on investment) of 7.13 crores, which equals 89.12% returns at the Indian box office. So, it’s a hit!
