The story is set in the late 1970s. Vikramaditya aka Aditya (played by Prabhas) is a renowned palmist who after predicting the emergency of India by reading Indira Gandhi’s hand, has left the country and is now in Europe with his mother and friend.
He is a wanderer who never stays at his home and loves flirtationship with girls. In a flirtationship, a girl named Tasha falls for him seriously and then, Aditya has no other option but to leave as he doesn’t want to get into a serious relationship.
While life keeps ticking for Aditya, Prerna (Pooja Hegde) comes into the picture and leaves our hero mesmerised. Now Aditya is desperate after Prerna and wants to spend time with her. Adi finally manages to impress her with his charm, and their love story begins.
But wait, there are a couple of hurdles (no spoilers here) in both’s lives, due to which first Prerna and then Aditya refrains from getting into a serious relationship.
What’s wrong with both? Do they really stay together in the end? Do they overcome difficulties to attain their love? These all questions are answered in the film.
Sorry Prabhas fans, but the actor clearly is a misfit for Vikramaditya’s character. His natural charm is there but fails to leave any impact. His Hindi dubbing feels sluggish.
Pooja Hegde is adorable as Prerna and has acted well, bringing out the innocence in her character. With each film, Pooja is improving and Radhe Shyam is no exception.
Good to see Bhagyashree after a long time. She has done well as Vikramaditya’s mother. Sachin Khedekar is good as Prerna’s uncle but fails to take one step up as there wasn’t much for his character. Sathyaraj, Kunal Roy Kapoor and Jagapathi Babu have done a decent job in whatever they got.
Romantic movies do work even today but you have to add some substance in the story to support it. Yes, the story in the first place is bland, so there’s nothing afterwards that could save the project.
Radhe Shyam gets trapped in between the story of a palmist and two people trying to succeed in their love. It neither evokes excitement nor makes you feel deep emotions. In short, there’s no connection with the audience.
The screenplay did have some scope but is left unused. The character of Jagapathi Babu is poorly developed and doesn’t really add anything to the film. Looks like, in an attempt to focus on the love story, things are left half-baked.
The film had a huge budget and things look grand, but director Radha Krishna Kumar fails to bring out emotion and thus fails in creating a good love story. The climax looks huge, engaging and is the only highlight of the film.
Radhe Shyam has plenty of songs and except Aashiqui Aa Gayi, none of them clicks. VFX work and costume designing stand out. The cinematography too is good and shots make you feel the grandeur.
Radhe Shyam is visually appealing and looks like a big-budget film, but that’s it! It fails to connect emotionally, and despite a crisp runtime of 2 hours and 18 minutes, the film makes you feel like a trip of boredom. From the box office point of view, it clearly depends on Prabhas‘ stardom, with no good content to back.
