In the past, we have seen Tamil releases doing superb business during the Pongal holidays. Speaking about the last year, Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu were at loggerheads. Despite a clash, both releases did well globally. Of course, both had high face value, resulting in big numbers.
In the case of Ayalaan and Captain Miller, the most favorable thing was the positive word-of-mouth and critical acclaim. This favorable reception did help in showing a good flow of collection during the Pongal holidays but after that, there wasn’t much of a noise at the box office.
