From South, we witnessed three films arriving at the box office this Independence Day: Thangalaan, Mr Bachchan, and Double iSmart. Unfortunately, none of these films have made a mark at ticket windows as they haven’t performed up to their hype and potential. Yes, all these films were carrying high expectations but so far, they haven’t been able to convert this hype into footfalls. Let’s find out how much collection they have made till now.
From Kollywood (Tamil), Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan was released on August 15. It was in the making for a long and faced multiple delays. Considering the unusual avatar of Vikram and the grand scale making, the film was expected to set the box office on fire but that hasn’t happened so far.
On the opening day, Thangalaan did a business of 13.50 crores at the Indian box office, while it dropped on day 2 and earned just 4.80 crores so far, taking the domestic collection to 18.30 crores net. Including taxes, it equals 21.59 crores gross. In overseas, the performance has been below average and just 6 crores gross have come so far, taking the worldwide box office collection to 27.59 crores gross after 2 days.
Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan is an official remake of Ajay Devgn’s Raid but has failed to please critics as well as audiences. On opening day, it earned just 5.31 crores (including 1.81 crores from paid previews) in India. On day 2, it saw a big drop and earned 1.15 crores, taking the overall domestic collection to 6.82 crores net. It equals a domestic gross of 8.04 crores. In overseas, too, the performance is dismal as just 1.80 crores gross has come so far. Overall, it has earned a collection of just 9.84 crores gross till now at the worldwide box office.
After Thangalaan and Mr Bachchan, let’s talk about Ram Pothineni’s Double iSmart. Despite being a sequel to a successful film, it failed to mark a powerful start and earned just 7.35 crores on day 1 at the Indian box office. On day 2, it crashed badly and earned 1.56 crores, taking the collection to 8.91 crores net in the first two days. Including taxes, it stands at 10.51 crores gross in India. In overseas, it’s a washout with just 2 crores gross coming in, taking the global tally to a dismal 12.51 crores gross in 2 days.
