Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-led Stree 2 has stormed the entire nation and exceeded all expectations with its occupancy across the nation. In some places, it is facing capacity issues. On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa have marked a fair start, but both films are behind the Stree sequel by a massive difference. On the whole, all three biggies from Bollywood have pulled off an unprecedented cumulative collection on day 1 at the Indian box office.

Stree 2 was enjoying a massive buzz on the ground level, which was clearly seen through the response to advance booking. In paid previews, the film saw a blockbuster response by earning 8.50 crores net, breaking Chennai Express’ record of 6.75 crores. Such a reception among the audience was just a glimpse of the tornado that was coming on Independence Day.

The horror comedy took a bumper opening all over India in the morning shows. With positive reviews and word-of-mouth, the film witnessed a big jump in afternoon and evening shows. Now, even night shows are running riot in almost all centers. As per early estimates, Stree 2 is expected to earn 43-45 crores on Independence Day. Including paid previews, the day 1 collection will be 51.5-53.5 crores, which is earth-shattering.

Coming Vedaa, the film had a fair opening at the Indian box office, and as per early estimates flowing in, it is closing its day 1 at 7-8 crores net. The film performed its best in the mass centres and the holiday factor has helped in marking some sort of a start.

Khel Khel Mein is the lowest opener among all three releases on Independence Day. The only positive is that it has opened much better than Akshay Kumar’s previous films (excluding Bade Miyan Chote Miyan), and yes, it benefitted immensely due to the Independence Day holiday. On the whole, all three Independence Day releases have amassed a cumulative total of 64.50-68.50 crores net at the Indian box office on day 1. Let’s see what is the actual total when the official collection comes out tomorrow.
