Prashanth and Simran starring Andhagan has failed to create any ripples as it has wrapped up its theatrical run on a dismal note. Being a remake of a modern-day cult, the film was expected to perform well but unfortunately, it didn’t put up a glorious run. Reception among critics
Directed by Thiagarajan, the black comedy crime thriller is an official Tamil remake of Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu’s Andhadhun, which was a big critical and commercial success upon its release in 2018. Speaking about the Prashanth starrer, it was released in theatres on August 9 and it received favorable reviews from critics. However, it failed to capitalize on positive reviews and word-of-mouth. Also, within a week of its release, the film was severely impacted due to the release of Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan.
Andhagan final box office collection
In India, Andhagan took a slow start by earning just 0.65 crore. It did show some jump over the opening weekend but after that, it failed to hold on to the momentum. As a result, it wrapped up its theatrical run at just 5.90 crores net. Including taxes, the final collection at the Indian box office stands at 6.29 crores gross.
It’s a big flop!
Andhagan didn’t witness a theatrical release in overseas, so its final collection is 6.29 crores gross or 5.90 crores net. For those who don’t know, it reportedly carried a budget of 15 crores. Going by the Indian box office thumb rule, a particular film needs to recover its cost through the domestic theatrical run. In this case, the film recovered only 39.33% of its cost, so it’s a big flop.
