Last week Bollywood witnessed one of the biggest clashes with Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan releasing on the same day. A lot of hopes were pinned on a clash to attract audiences to theatres in big numbers, however, the actual scenario has turned out to be quite shocking. Now let’s know what’s the budget of the biggies as both of them have emerged as theatrical flops.
Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are undoubtedly two of the biggest names in Bollywood. Shockingly, the films of both the stars managed a combined total of a little over 20 crores on an opening day. Considering the stardom and box office standards of both the stars, one expects 20 crores opening for each film as an ideal situation. Taking into account the clash factor, at least 30 crores was expected as a combined total on day 1. Even that didn’t happen and the writing on the wall was pretty much clear.
One saw a boycott trend on social media for both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan. However, it is doubtful how much it has affected in reality. It is understood that Aamir’s LSC tanked due to poor word-of-mouth, but no one can really explain how Akshay’s film flopped despite most of the audience and critics speaking in favour. Whatever the reasons are, the end result is that both the biggies have become theatrical flops.
Speaking about Laal Singh Chaddha, the film carries a budget of 180 crores. Till now, it has made 47.83 crores (6 days) and with the kind of poor trend it is enjoying, we expect that LSC will go up to the 60 crore mark at max. Going by the general rule of box office verdict, LSC has to go above the 180 crore mark to avoid being called a flop. That’s clearly not happening and the film is a big theatrical flop or one can even call it a disaster.
Now coming to Raksha Bandhan, the film is made at a reasonable budget of 65 crores. Despite it, the film is on its way to becoming a theatrical flop as till now it has made 36.22 crores and will up to 50 crores at max. So it is too bound to become a flop but not as big as Laal Singh Chaddha.
