Over the last decade, Bollywood has witnessed an upward graph- be it quality or wise or economically. Sticking to the commercial path, we’ll be discussing highest grossing Bollywood director. There’s an interesting competition between filmmakers- Rohit Shetty, Rajkumar Hirani and Ali Abbas Zafar.

Rajkumar Hirani
Rajkumar Hirani is one of the best filmmakers in India. Hirani has directed just 5 films in his career even though he started it in 2003. He started off with a cult, Munnabhai MBBS. It made a collection of 24 crores in India. Sequel to Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai too did a blockbuster business in India. It made 75 crores. His 3rd film became an all-time blockbuster in the form of 3 Idiots. It made 202 crores at the box office. His next with Aamir Khan too was a blockbuster in the form of PK. It made a business of 340 crores. He delivered another all-time blockbuster by collaborating with Ranbir Kapoor for Sanju. The film did was a mammoth business of 341.22 crores. With 5 films, Rajkumar Hirani has 982.22 crores to his credit to become 3rd highest grossing Bollywood director.
Ali Abbas Zafar
Starting from the least, Ali Abbas Zafar makes it to the list as the 2nd highest grossing Bollywood director. Just like Hirani, Ali too just has 5 films in his career. He made his successful debut with Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar starrer Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011). The film made a good business of 58 crores. His 2nd film was a decent success in the form of Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor led Gunday. It made 77 crores at the box office. He hit it out of the park with Salman Khan‘s Sultan which made 301 crores. Ali hit another jackpot with his next, Tiger Zinda Hai. The film made 339.16 crores in India. The last film on his filmography is Bharat. It made 209.36 crores. With such good numbers coming from each release, Ali Abbas Zafar stands with a total collection of 984.52 crores.
Rohit Shetty
And here comes the hit machine, Rohit Shetty. He is the highest grossing Bollywood director. Just like Rajkumar Hirani, Shetty too started his career in 2003. He made his debut with Zameen which made 11 crores and was a box office flop. His next Golmaal: Fun Unlimited turned out to be a mega success with a collection of 30 crores. His next was a flop in the form of Sunday. It made 20 crores. His 4th release, Golmaal Returns turn the fortune of Shetty and made him an unstoppable hit machine. This film made 51.20 crores. His next, All The Best was a decent box office success with a collection of 42 crores. Golmaal 3 made 108 crores in India. Shetty’s next, Bol Bachchan and Singham too made it to 100 crore club by earning 101 crores and 101 crores, respectively. In a first-ever collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, Chennai Express, Rohit Shetty enjoyed 200 crore success as the film made 227 crores. His Singham Returns, Dilwale and Golmaal Again made 140 crores, 148 crores and 205.72 crores, respectively. He delivered his highest grosser with Simmba which made 240.22 crores at the box office. All such numbers take Rohit Shetty at Everest with a sum of 1425.14 crores. He’s untouchable at no. 1 and the highest grossing Bollywood director ever!
