There’s a cheerful atmosphere for Indian exhibitors/theatre owners as Master box office collection is proving that people are ready to step outside their home and enjoy cinema on the big screen. The amazing screen presence and mass performances of Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi have worked a long time with people, which is clearly visible from the humongous numbers at ticket windows.
Released on 13th January, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has completed a run of 17 days in theatres. Not just in India but the film has made its impact globally. As per trade estimates, the commercial potboiler has pulled off a collection of 239 crores worldwide. The 250 crore mark is expected to be crossed in next 2-3 days. Given the pandemic restrictions, the Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi starrer has truly emerged as a box office winner on its merit.
Coming back to the domestic box office, Master has done unthinkable by bringing in over 100 crore plus collection in Tamil Nadu state. In Chennai city alone, it has cross 10 crores (10.90 crores in 15 days) and has become Thalapathy’s 4th consecutive outing to do so and overall his 5th.
Apart from Vijay duo, Master also features Arjun Das, Malavika Mohanan in key roles.
For the unversed, the film made its OTT premiere (Amazon Prime Video) on 28th January and is enjoying a tremendous run there too.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Vijay Sethupathi shared his views on the film’s premature OTT arrival. He said, “I am very happy because Master released in theatres and people are appreciating it. I am also happy as it is getting an OTT release too, for those who can’t come to theatres.”
“When I was working with Vijay sir, I was a bit nervous but then later I got comfortable,” he added.
