The much-talked about Kannappa finally arrived in theatres yesterday (June 27). Starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, the Tollywood magnum opus is backed by an exorbitant price tag, and to justify that, it needs to pull off an extraordinary performance. Unfortunately, as far as start is concerned, the film failed to open big and registered an underwhelming collection on the opening day. Let’s discuss how much it needs to earn at the Indian box office to become a clean hit!
Budget of the film
The Telugu mythological devotional film is a magnum opus from Tollywood. It has been in the making for a long time and while the exact budget is not officially confirmed, it is learned that the film has been made on a budget of 180 crores. A significant chunk of money is assumed to be gone in the remunerations of Akshay Kumar, Prabhas and Mohanlal, who have made cameo appearances in the film.
Also, the VFX work and production scale have reportedly accounted for a huge sum. Overall, the budget is said to be 180 crores, thus putting a burden on Kannappa to perform extremely well at the Indian box office.
How much Kannappa needs to earn at the Indian box office to become a hit?
Considering the aforementioned budget, Kannappa must earn 180 crores anyhow to avoid the flop tag. After doing this, it must score a total collection of 270 crore net at the Indian box office to become a clean hit at the Indian box office.
Against the cost of 180 crores, if the film earns 270 crores, the ROI (return on investment) will be 90 crores or 50%. So, to become a clean hit at the Indian box office, the Vishnu Manchu starrer must earn 270 crore net.
Things are not looking good for the film
Released on June 27, Kannappa registered an underwhelming start of 9.5 crore net at the Indian box office. From here, it needs a miraculous turnaround to become a success. Since word-of-mouth is not good, things are looking scary for the film in the upcoming days.
