The massive fan base of superstar Mahesh Babu is celebrating Murari’s re-release. Arrived on the auspicious occasion of the Tollywood superstar’s birthday, the film opened to a thunderous response at the worldwide box office and clocked an all-time record start. It surpassed Businessman’s collection and registered an opening of over 5 crores gross. Now, again yesterday, the film displayed a strong performance.
Directed and written by Krishna Vamsi, the supernatural family drama was originally released on February 17, 2001. Upon its release, the film enjoyed favorable reviews from critics, with Vamsi getting praised for his direction and Mahesh Babu getting praised for his performance. Other than that, the cinematography and the overall content received a big thumbs-up.
Despite being hailed as a masterpiece during its original run, fans initially didn’t like the idea of re-releasing Murari in theatres as it’s not a typical commercial potboiler and they thought it wouldn’t suit the occasion like birthday. However, when the advance booking of the film commenced, everyone was taken by surprise.
On day 1, Murari hit it out of the park and earned 5.4 crores gross, surpassing Businessman’s 5.2 crores gross to register the biggest-ever opening for a Tollywood re-release. After such a fantastic start, the film was bound to drop yesterday and that’s what exactly happened, but still, a strong number came on the board.
As per the trade report, Murari scored 2 crores gross on day 2, thus taking the total collection to 7.4 crores gross at the worldwide box office after 2 days. Even today, the film is performing brilliantly and is estimated to hit the milestone of 10 crores gross by the end of the weekend.
