The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated Prithviraj is finally out now. As it’s a magnum opus and backed by YRF, expectations are high. But not to forget that it’s surrounded by a bunch of promising films. So, the box office prediction has got interesting for Akshay’s biggie.
Before we get started, let’s understand why the Akshay Kumar starrer is one of the hyped films in Bollywood at present. The first and foremost reason is Akshay doing a historical drama after Kesari. Another reason is that it is one of the most expensive Bollywood projects which is made for a big-screen experience. The third and the most important reason is, that it is based on the great warrior Prithviraj Chauhan. Despite all these factors, the path isn’t easy for the film as there are a lot of hurdles on the way.
For those who don’t know, Prithviraj is clashing with two pan-Indian films, Major and Vikram. First talking about Major, the film has been in the making for a long. It stars Adivi Sesh and is co-produced by Mahesh Babu. It’s a bilingual film as it has been shot in Telugu and Hindi simultaneously. Apart from Telugu and Hindi, it will be also releasing in Malayalam on 3rd June. It is based on the late Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who became a martyr in the 2008 Mumbai Attacks.
Earlier, no one really knew about the film in the Hindi speaking belt. But ever since its trailer is out, the buzz has picked up. As it has an emotional subject, the film is expected to work with a large segment of the audience. Despite a slow start, the film might surprise one and all if the content clicks with the audience. It is a serious threat to the Akshay Kumar starrer.
Another film in a clash with Prithviraj is a Tamil action thriller Vikram starring Kamal Haasan. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil, who are known faces in the Hindi belt. The film looks large in scale and will be presented in a pan-Indian fashion. It is releasing on 3rd June in Tamil, Hindi and other languages. It doesn’t boast of a subject catering to a large audience but has the potential to take a good start if promoted well among the Hindi audience. The rest of the run would be decided by its content. It might dent Prithviraj in mass pockets.
Last and possibly the biggest threat is Hollywood biggie, Jurassic World Dominion, which will release a week later than Akshay‘s film i.e. 10th June. Of course, it won’t be directly clashing with Akshay’s film but will damage its potential of adding a big total in the lifetime run. Jurassic is a popular franchise in India and fans are crazily waiting to catch it on the big screen with all that 3D and 4D effects.
Jurassic World Dominion will eat up a huge chunk of business in A and B centres, and might even work wonders in C centre just like Spider-Man: No Way Home.
All the above-mentioned biggies will definitely challenge Prithviraj at the box office. It might affect as huge as 30-40% of the business of Akshay’s film even if two of three films click with the audience.
