The upcoming Bollywood movie, Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt, has been grabbing eyeballs lately but not for good reasons. One of the adopted sons of Gangubai Kothewali (on whom the movie is based) has filed a defamation case against the leading actress, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and the writer Hussain Zaidi.
The trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi was dropped by the makers on February 24. Since then, the movie has been buzzing all around. However, in a recent case, the chief metropolitan magistrate court of Mumbai has issued summons to Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali concerning the defamation case filed against them by Babu Rawji Shah.
Gangubai Kothewali adopted four children, and one of her four children has filed a case of defamation. The movie is based on the book on Gangubai’s life written by Hussain Zaidi. Shah claims that one of the chapters of the book named, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, tarnished and ruined the reputation of his mother. He also added that it violates the right to privacy and stains self-respect. He said that it portrays his family in the wrong way. Also, it is factually incorrect.Â
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt have to present themselves before the court on May 21. Alia Bhatt is playing the lead role in the movie, hence, she is also a part of the defamation case. Shah filed a petition in Mumbai civil court and was seeking a restraining order on the film and its trailer. However, the court rejected his plea.Â
In other news, recently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali tested positive for Covid-19. He has now tested negative and will be returning on sets for the shoot to resume the shooting of the remaining parts of the movie. Gangubai Kathiawadi will be releasing in the theatres on July 30.Â
