The day after tomorrow, it’s going to be Rajinikanth mania all over as his much-awaited Vettaiyan is arriving in theatres. As the superstar is returning after a blockbuster, Jailer, expectations are sky-high and fans are excited to celebrate it like a big event. As there haven’t been many big releases so far in 2024, the Kollywood trade is happy that after Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time, another biggie from the industry is coming to smash the box office.
In Tamil Nadu, Thalapathy Vijay is the dominant force, followed by Thalaiva. However, when it comes to Telugu states- Andhra Pradesh and Telangana- Rajini has an edge over Vijay. Over the years, he has delivered several money spinners in AP and Telangana, indicating his massive and loyal fan base in Telugu states. Even his last release, Jailer, turned out to be a huge success in these two states, making hefty profits for the buyers.
For those who aren’t aware, Jailer’s breakeven was set at around 25 crores gross in Telugu states. Against this breakeven value, the film did a business of 82 crores gross, thus emerging as a blockbuster and enjoying overflow for the buyers. So, expectations are very high from Vettaiyan, resulting in the film doing higher pre-release business than Jailer.
Reportedly, Vettaiyan’s theatrical rights in Telugu states have been sold at 17 crores. So, to achieve breakeven, it will need to earn around 35 crores gross at the Telugu box office. As Rajinikanth is coming from a huge success like Jailer, earning 35 crores gross won’t be a huge task for the film. Even with decent content, it will manage to achieve breakeven. However, here, it isn’t just about breakeven but all eyes are set on how much overflow it brings in for distributors.
Meanwhile, Vettaiyan is scheduled to release on October 10. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Manju Warrier in key roles. It is directed by TJ Gnanavel.
